Securing SS7 Telecommunications Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Signaling System 7 (SS7) defines the network architecture, configuration and message transport protocol for Public Telephone Networks (PTNs). SS7 was originally designed for a closed telecommunications community, and therefore possesses limited authentication facilities. Deregulation coupled with PTN convergence with the Internet and wireless networks significantly increase vulnerabilities, enabling attackers to perpetrate fraud, interception and interruption on a potentially massive scale. This paper analyzes vulnerabilities in SS7 networks and presents an attack taxonomy. The architecture of a system for detecting and responding to SS7 network attacks is also described. Keywords—Public telephone networks, SS7 networks, vulnerabilities, critical infrastructure protection

SS7 Network Management Using Link Monitors
The disruption and loss of SS7 signalling networks during the summer of 1991 in North America by the “brown outs” and the resultant loss of services, revenue and customers, has focused the minds of many Telcos to put management systems in place to ensure network robustness. Their primary purpose being to identify problem trends earlier and speed up restoration of failed signalling components. W...

the Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS), is among the key technologies for providing personal communications services (PCS). PCS will ultimately enable communication with a person anytime, anyplace, and in any form. Its key features have been described in recent publications [1–3]. D-AMPS has been specified by the Electronic Industry Association (EIA) in cooperation with the Telecommunication I...
متن کاملExternal, Network-Wide Monitoring of SS7 Networks: A Solution to Managing Digital Telecommunications Networks
This paper discusses how a switch-independent, network-wide monitoring system for 55? [1] networks can provide a powerful solution to managing the complex requirements of modem digital telecommunications networks. The proposed approach to 55? traffic monitoring allows the provision of a homogeneous view across networks independently of multi-vendor switch hardware and software, thus overcoming ...

Reading a book is also kind of better solution when you have no enough money or time to get your own adventure. This is one of the reasons we show the developments in telecommunications with a focus on ss7 network reliability as your friend in spending the time. For more representative collections, this book not only offers it's strategically book resource. It can be a good friend, really good ...
متن کاملIntrusion Detection for Telephony Signalling
The Public Switched Telecommunications Network (PSTN) has becoming increasingly dependent on Signalling System 7 (SS7) due the drive to provide new services, such as Calling Name ID, Local Number Portability, the migration of other services to regional and national databases (e.g., E800, Calling Card, and eventually E911) and deregulation. Additionally, the explosion in the mobile communication...
